FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 2nd Pacific Festival of the Book Announces Participants

The 2nd Pacific Festival of the Book taking place March 10-20, 2008 in Victoria, BC, Canada is getting a great lift from local and internationally renowned and prize winning participants. This community event has blossomed into a city-wide ten day festival and features an expanded program of author talks, readings, hands on workshops, exhibitions and performances. More than 35 writers and authors will be participating in this year's festival along with 40 publishers and writers at the Exhibitors Trade Show on Saturday March 15th and over 70 visual artists through the exhibition programs. Leading the way are a host of well known authors such as PK Page, Victoria Poet Laureate Carla Funk, John Barton the editor of the Malahat Review and Naomi Beth Wakan who returns to the festival with a second installment of her popular "Late Bloomers - Writing in Later Life" workshop and talk.

Fans of the Spoken Word will also get their fix with the participation of Sheri-D Wilson and Robert Priest. Sheri-D, aka "the mother of dada" is an internationally renowned poet, playwright, performer, film-maker, essayist, and educator known for her jazz infused performance style laced with a dangerous wit. In 2003 she won the title Heavyweight of Poetry, USA in a Bumbershoot Bout against the incredible Andrei Codrescu. Sheri-D has six collections of published poetry and her work has been featured on CBC's Word Beat, Sounds like Canada, Canada Reads and ZED TV. Sheri-D is the founder and Artistic Director of the Calgary International Spoken Word Festival, and a founding member of SWAN (Spoken Word Arts Network).

Robert Priest of Toronto is an eclectic, often hilarious and always insightful poet, singer and songwriter. He has published fourteen books of poetry and has a long list of awards behind his career. As a songwriter, he co-wrote the number one hit, "Song Instead of a Kiss" for Alannah Myles and has been seen singing topical songs on CBC Television's Sunday Night News. Robert teaches a lyric-writing course at U.of T.'s School of Continuing Education and as a teacher/workshop leader he has been described as "Ontario's most popular poet in the schools" by Today's Parent Magazine. Robert will be leading an inspirational and creative session dedicated to the art of spoken and written word for youth. This session supports the aim of encouraging and mentoring youth and is aligned with the festival's Youth Anthology Project which will be published and launched at the festival this year.
